Alim is a 12-year-old orphan! His father died while he was still a kid and because his mother wanted to remarry, she abandoned him. He was taken up by a stranger who has catered for him ever since.

He has been doing well in school but had to stay home for the first part of the year because his adoptive “mother” could not pay his fees.

Through your gifts, Mount Carmel is able to support him so he gets back to school and gets a future. He is enjoying school again and is very grateful for the help being offered him.

SHOE DONATION IN QUEREATRO, MEXICO

We are also very thankfull for your support with  the shoe proyect in Queretaro, Mexico. This past december, we gave away 99 pair of shoes to street children, joung people and adults.

First of all we want to thank you for your collaboration with the construction of the dining room for the Wichi community in Argentinia. With your support we could buy a lot of material and we could conclude the construction. The people were very thankful and happy to know that some people from very far away were interested in them. We will attach some pictures at the end of the letter.

Regarding other projects, thanks to the fact of our team being in three different continents (Jacques and Julia in Cameroon, Africa, Juan and Marta in Mexico, and Jonas and his wife in Germany) we have the opportunity to serve several countries at the same time.

Our next project will be in Mexico. Juan’s brother along with his wife work with street kids. They are a group of around 100 people. We want to give them each a pair of shoes at the end of the month.

On the other hand, there are some possible projects to do in Cameroon which we are analyzing. As soon as we agree on the next one, we will let you know.

Last but not least we want to mention some people to whom we are very grateful: Dio and Helen Ajah have been great friends and a big support for our team for a long time now. But especially now we are happy to have them supporting Jonas and his wife.

Mount Carmel Team members report

Dear friends,

as you know, there wasn’t much activity in our organization during the past year. Therefore, we would like to share with you what has been happening lately with our team members, as well as to inform you of the projects we are planning to work on and to provide you with an outlook on our future plans.

There were three main reasons why there wasn’t much action last year.

Our families grew:

Joanne, the second child of Juan and Marta was born in September 2010.Elijah, Jacques and Julia’s first son was born in December 2010.Jonas graduated from university and had been very busy studying for his exams.

All that made our projects pause for a while. Thank God, things are more stable now and we are ready to continue. Jacques, Julia and Elijah are now in Cameroonand are doing all the legal procedures for the adoption of Salima, a two year old girl Jacques’ mother had been taking care of until recently. The fact that Jacques and Julia are now in Cameroon, will enable us to support more projects without the need of mediators - a factor which had often complicated things in the past. We are also happy to inform you about the new member of our team: Jonas’ fiancée, Suphansa.

As many of you know, when Mount Carmel was founded, the original idea was to make it an organization that supports international projects, starting in Cameroon and continuing in Mexico and other countries according to the needs that would arise and the contacts we would be ableto establish.

Some months ago Juan and Marta spent some time in Mexico. There they saw the possibility of implementing some projects in a small poor community in the center of the country. Alternatively, on the advice of some Argentinean friends, we became aware of the necessity to support a group of Indians in the north of Argentina. We consider it a good idea to carry out projects regardless of the place or country. Additionally, knowing that the way of life in Cameroon is very slow (in part because of the lack of efficient means of communication), we don’t want to lose theopportunity to reach and help many different groups of people simultaneously. By doing this we seek to optimize the time and the resources that we have at our disposal.

We are planning an African night together with INCAS (Aachen’s Intercultural Students Centre) and some other organisations. This will take place in September at the Humbolt- Haus ( Pontstr, Aachen). Soon we will let you know of the exact date. Mount Carmel will give a 10 minute presentation and will have its own stand.

Cooperation with a French carpenter

For some time we have been in contact with Pierre-Eloi Bris, a French carpenter. He manufactures school furniture which specifically suits the needs of nomads. They can easily be transported; the fabrication is not complicated either. Due to the fact that some nomads live in Djalingo seasonally and because the furniture is adequate for the primary school, we decided to work with him in the future.
